Finally, after a very long wait, Sony revelled their next-gen consoles and frankly, the design and specs were kind of what we expected to be. But what actually excites us about the PS5 is not the hardware but the games that will be available in this console
We will get back to the games later, let's first talk about the console itself.
We will get back to the games later, let's first talk about the console itself.
About the Console
While the Xbox Series X is designed more simple and clean, Sony designed the PS5 to be more futuristic and gamers centric while keeping the elegance of their colour scheme.
The body is created with a curvy mixture of black and white plastics with blue highlight lighting. There will be two version of the PS5 - the regular one with the Blu-Ray disk drive and a digital edition without the Blu-Ray drive. As for the pricing, Sony hasn't released them yet but assuming the specs the prices might be on the higher side. The digital version will be priced lower than the regular one due to removal of the drive. The company also hasn't revealed any firm release date yet but we expect it to launch in the 4th quarter this year (i.e. between September and December).
Just like the Xbox Series X, the PS5 can be placed vertically or horizontally underneath a TV or monitor. Sony has built a stand that works for either orientation, and the company is using what looks like a slightly different stand for the Digital Edition of the PS5. The top of the PS5 unit also appears to include vents for heat dissipation, with USB-A and USB-C ports at the front.
Like Microsoft, Sony has also been teasing us with more and more information about the console for quite some time now. The console will come with a custom made AMD octa-core ZEN 2 CPU and custom RDNA 2 based GPU and the custom AMD chips will provide 10.28 teraflops of power using variable frequencies on both the CPU and GPU. Sony is also using a proprietary SSD solution to boost load times for games. The SSD will provide 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero Miles Morales, it is the second game in the Marvel's Spider-Man series, preceded by Marvel's Spider-Man (2018). It was announced at the PlayStation 5 live reveal event in June 2020. It is due to be released in Q4 2020 as a launch title.
The narrative continues from Marvel's Spider-Man and its downloadable content The City That Never Sleeps, during which Miles Morales is bitten by a genetically-enhanced spider and gains spider-like powers similar to Peter Parker's. A year after the first game and its DLC, Miles has fully integrated himself into the black and red suit and fights criminals as an experienced Spider-Man, showcasing his superpowers. He defends his hometown, Harlem, from a gang war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army. Parker tells Miles that he has to be like his late father and walk on the path to becoming a hero for the city of New York.
