Over the last decade, we’ve seen a lot more laptops shipping with integrated graphics that are capable of at least some light gaming and proliferation of indie titles with less aggressive requirements. Put the two together, and you’ve got a lot more options for low-end gaming today than 10-20 years ago. Now, one way for enjoying PC games is certainly to improve hardware and software, but thankfully, that's not the only way to please your soul.
Below is a list of games you can easily play on your PC or laptop, with no worries, if your device isn't among the best fit for gaming in the market.
10. Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
This is based on the tabletop Mutant Year Zero X-COM game. If you have played any X-COM game, you will find this quite similar. It has got the gameplay of X-COM along with a slight touch of RPG in it. The worst thing we can say about Mutant Year Zero is that you’ll have to do some Googling to figure out which buttons are tied to which keyboard functions. The game’s plot and post-apocalyptic setting recall the best parts of Fallout, and while the game isn’t as deep as one of those sprawling titles, it still feels like a spiritual sequel. Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden feels a bit like a “AA” game, for lack of a better phrase. Reasonably well-polished with solid aspirations, but you won’t mistake it for a 400-hour dungeon crawler. Still, a good choice to cut the boredom.
9. Batman: Arkham City
Arkham Asylum is, to be sure, still an excellent game, and it runs on an even lower-spec system than Arkham City. But between the two of them, Arkham City is the better overall Batman game. Batman’s overall bag of tricks gets polished and AC offers you playing time as characters like Cat-woman, with her own distinct move set and animation style. If you want to find out if you’re going to like the Arkham game series, I’d say this is the best one to try.
8. West of Loathing
West of Loathing is a “graphical” adventure game that could run on a Lite-Brite. Don’t let the black-and-white stick-based graphics fool you — under the hood is a classic adventure game with RPG elements, killer clowns, demon cows, snake oil salesman, and a heap of spittoons to dig through in search of loot. The dialogue is laugh-out-loud funny and the game’s irreverent humour recalls the best adventure game writing of earlier eras. Yes, it's not a visual feast, yet fun to play.
7. Minecraft
A game that’s inspired millions of people to spend billions of hours stacking blocks on top of each other to build everything from an exact replica of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek to actual working computers. Minecraft is a phenomenal crafting and building game. If you are a patient gamer and want to take things slow along with creating your dream world, this is the game for you, mate.
6. Assassin's Creed (1,2, Brotherhood,3)
Of course, everyone knows about the legacy of the Assassins as they move around in all major cities of Europe, France, and Rome. Play as Altaïr Ibn La Ahad, Ezio Auditore, and many others as you take on the streets with your stealth kills and techniques and overcome challenges to free your duty as an Assassin. With some among the series require a great configuration, these will help you to enjoy your free time with no such worries if your PC isn't suited for high graphics.
5. Sleeping Dogs
Set in contemporary Hong Kong, the story follows Wei Shen, an undercover Chinese-American police officer on assignment to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad organization. Gameplay focuses on Shen's fighting, shooting and parkour abilities, and on gadgets that can be used for combat and exploration. Players must complete missions to unlock content and continue the story, but they may instead freely roam the game's open world environment and engage in both legal and criminal activities. The latter may incite a police response, the intensity of which is controlled by a "heat" system. Actions such as fighting, driving and racing grant Shen statistical rewards and earn the player achievements.
4. Mafia (1,2)
Set within the fictional Empire Bay (based on New York City, as well as aspects of Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Detroit) in 1945 and later 1951, the game's storyline follows Sicilian mobster and war veteran Vito Scaletta as he becomes involved in a power struggle among the Mafia crime facilities of the city while attempting to pay back his father's debts and secure a better lifestyle for himself. Overall,a great game.
3. Max Payne (1,2)
Truth be told, third-person shooters don't come any better. So far, since little was known about the storyline, the attention surrounding Max Payne has focused on the game engine. Fortunately, the plot—a grim, compelling noir-style cop tale—is as gripping as the stunning action sequences. With the aim to find the leader of a drug company and revealing it's connection to the death of the main protagonist's wife and child, the arresting plot and gameplay is a great choice altogether.
2. Orcs Must Die (1,2)
Orcs Must Die and Orcs Must Die 2 are some of our favorite titles for mindless slaughtery goodness and have a permanent space on my hard drive. This hybrid tower-defense/action game tasks you with burning, blasting, freezing, smashing, dissolving, shooting, and generally wreaking mayhem against wave after wave of orcs, trolls, ogres, and other various bad guys as they seek to invade your home. It’s easy to learn and sometimes surprisingly difficult to master.
1. FIFA 14
Make no mistake, this is the best soccer game ever made, bringing decades of experience together to create one of the most entertaining and downright addictive sports titles money can buy. You can not only just play for your favorite club but can also create your dream team and unleash all your skills on the pitch.
Hence, these are a fistful of games you can easily enjoy without worrying about your PC performance that much. They won't lag, would provide a great experience at a very low price of computer settings, and would thrill you top to bottom. So, gear up with them and start gaming.
